I agree. He was less malevolent and more... chaotic. His actions in the past are not excusable, but his motivation did not seem to be driven by a desire to harm.
[ there's a line there, one cassian understands and akechi seems to as well, though he has his doubts about some of the other displaced. despite that, cassian is still very much team cassius here. ]
I was unfortunately still recovering my actual memories during our conversation, so I fear I did not have the state of mind I would have preferred to question him. What sense did you get of his goals?
He implied that the gods may be chained already, or that they're on that course. Of course, he also said that there are people heading in that direction, and when I pointed out that he had made more progress than most, he didn't seem to care. The implication is that it's better that it's him than anyone at all.
Given what these gods can do, I'm not eager to see what they're capable of when not chained or when under his influence.
Personally, I'd do away with all of the gods.
[Kill them? Lock them away? Whatever it may be, he doesn't want anyone meddling in his life. Fuck them all.]
Maybe the Aerie was a warning. To help us avoid that path. I made the choice to free them there, and I cannot say I regret the end of that world by doing so.
Grey implied the Aerie was more the gods' doing than his, that he was thrown into it the same as we were. He claimed it was the work of at least two of them, heavily implying the Gold one. Given he was the only god not in a cage, I can believe that as it stands.
He said we are the ones who woke up Gold, in Antarctica, and we know he was searching for one there. I imagine he is looking for the rest.
I do not particularly care about gods in concept, but they seem to be too intertwined into this world to do away with them completely without consequences. I am more concerned about the fact that organizations like Riverstone and the UN have some level of interest in the gods, simply from their involvement in Spinetail.
But with Grey himself as the conduit for it all. Don't forget that by asking for Judas, Grey ensured that the UN would be relatively gutted for any frontal assault. I still believe that Judas' freedom had a role to play in Grey's plans, even if it was simply a matter of seeing where the dust settled afterward.
Either way, if we can't do away with the gods, we should prevent their freedom. Find a way to sabotage all research into them. Bring it to a close.
And end Grey once and for all. Leave things where they are, and see if the pieces work themselves out.
Trust me. We don't want to be any further weighed down with the responsibility of gods. Especially if those gods are speaking warnings into our ears. So to speak, anyway.
I hesitate to put the blame on Grey for all of it. But yes, like Grey used Cassius for centuries, I have always believed he sought to use Judas for selfish reasons. For more. Judas must have offered something Cassius could not give, and didn't Grey help develop the tech the UNA used for Judas too? He has connections across the globe but I do not want to flatter him as a lynch pin to all of it. But I could be biased, as I do not ascribe to the idea that one single person can be deemed the most important part of a system.
Prevent their freedom how? Putting them back into cages like in the Aerie seems like a bad idea.
Given we have pieces of one of the gods within us, I think it will be difficult for us to completely ignore their position and power in this world, and I hate the truth of that statement. Before we make any decisions about these gods, I think it more important to learn more about how they function as a part of this planet.

It's not that he's the sole beneficiary. He did say that he was acting the way he could because he could get there before anyone else. Thus, he seems to believe that certain things could move forward without him, but it's better if he's involved, or if he can sabotage it in a way that involves him. He's certainly done well to try to make him someone at the heart of a great deal of things. Longevity isn't the only way to make that happen.
But "freedom" may be something that's more loosely defined. I don't wish to put them in a cage. I simply want them uninvolved in our existence. I'd gladly do away with the power inside of me to make that happen.
And personally, I think that far more important than worrying about the stability of this world. The Aerie was an experience for all of us. That can't have been without due cause. Though we may lack the means to translate the messaging before it's far too late.
I agree that longevity is not the only factor, though it certainly helped. I believe him quite capable of creating a domino effect, and wanting to push an agenda of his own volition - but how others react to his actions comes into play as well. He has just put himself into many of the equations.
Considering what happened the last time someone tried to remove trace of the blue god from us, I am not sure how possible that is. Though I went my whole life without a power - as convenient as it is now, if it were necessary to give up, I could as well.
The gods could very well be tied to the stability of this world, and I have to admit, I would like it to remain stable.
Then let me put it this way. Involving the gods has led to instability. The Aerie is proof. So let's do away with involving them in any way if we can help it.
Perhaps removal of what's inside of us would come more easily if we were willing participants.
